The Assay Office of Scotland has been responsible for maintaining records, according registered 'Sponsor' of 'makers' marks and is the sole agency in Scotland responsible for recognising the purity and quality control of all pieces of Silver and Gold produced and registered in Scotland. o This remains the sole responsibility of the Assay Office of Scotland today in 2007 and this has been their heritage since records began in 1457!
The unique 'sponsor's' mark accorded to Tantalus Antiques, recognisesd and recorded with the Assay Office of Scotland is a twin circle encasing the initial letters 'TA'.

The design of these kiltpins is influenced by the ancient Scottish 14th century broadsword, The Claymore. o The Claymore was an 'oversized' two handed hilt sword and a formidable weapon wielded by the most staunch of Scottish Hielandmen.
