LOCAL NEWS

64th Annual Glasgow Taxi Outing to Troon Wednesday June 17th 2009

This event, organized by the Glasgow Taxi Owners Association, took place as previewed despite the dismal start to the day.

The Association raises funds throughout the year to bring disabled and disadvantaged children to Troon in over 200 taxis, buses and other vehicles.

The taxi-drivers were in fancy dress and their Taxis were as handsomely decorated as ever. The winning Taxi led the Parade into Troon, accompanied by Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.

The Taxis were greeted by Troon's Gala Queen and Princess, the Civic Award Winner and Deputy Provost of South Ayrshire who then led the Taxis in the Parade into the Town Centre accompanied by our MSP, local councilors, the Chair of the Business Association and local youth organisations.

This is always a very special day in Troon's Calendar and various businesses in Troon raised funds throughout the year for this day. They decorated their premises for the occasion and the best-dressed Shop and Pub received awards from the Taxi Owners Association.

Troon Community Council Activities Group co-ordinated arrangements in Troon. Just after 1 pm the sun came out and the kids had a wonderful day, which is what it is all about
